Ex-interbank trader Mike Paterson lifts the lid on how to use the order boards and option expiries in your trading

Mike's been around the block, and more than a few times to boot. He was a senior spot trader for UBS and Credit Suisse and has over 30 years of experience under his belt. He's a strong advocate of the KISS way of trading, something you'll see every day in his posts.

As he is fond of saying, it takes two to make a market and it is often forgotten that that is the single most important aspect of trading. It's not platforms, it's not economists or analysts, it's not fundamental news or technical analysis. You need buyers and sellers if you want a market. Without them, none of us would be able to trade.

Being at the top of the tree in the forex universe, Mike helped make markets. He made the prices that would have filtered down the line to retail traders like us. We plug into our brokers, our brokers plug into their liquidity providers. Those liquidity providers were/are people like Mike.

Irrespective of technological advances, we still need two way prices to be made and the chain of liquidity hasn't changed. We get to see the degrees of that liquidity through the order boards that Mike posts on site daily. Their importance is often dangerously underestimated.

In our ACT course starting tomorrow, Mike will teach you why the order boards are important and why you need to consider them in your trading. He'll also teach you about the option expiries, a feature that can impact markets a great deal. Here he is in person to explain further.
