There is Japan trade data on the economic calendar today but eyes will be on the Bank of Japan later

  • Trade balance for June: expected is Y 488.0bn, prior was Y -204.2bn
  • Trade balance (adjusted) for June: expected is Y 127.5bn, prior was Y 133.8bn
  • Exports for June y/y: expected is 9.5%, prior was 14.9%
  • Imports y/y: expected 14.4%, prior was 17.8%

For the BOJ announcement and statement there is no scheduled time. It'll come when it comes. Past experience points to the 0230 to 0300GMT time window, but I'll be back with more on this.

The focus is also on Australia today, its employment report day. Due at 0130GMT

  • Employment Change June: expected +15.0K, prior +42.0K (this indicator has been on the improve in past months)
  • Unemployment Rate: expected 5.6%, prior 5.5%
  • Full Time Employment Change, prior was +52.1K
  • Part Time Employment Change, prior was -10.0K
  • Participation Rate, expected is 64.9%, prior was 64.9%

Also at 0130GMT and also from Australia, NAB Business Survey (confidence and conditions) - this time it's the quarterly survey (for Q2), which is a different survey to their monthly. I'll have more to come on a separate post on this also - while it's the monthly reports that attract most attention (timeliness etc.) this will also be watched.

Also at 0130GMT the RBA report their transactions with the market in June. This data point is guidance to forex intervention but there hasn't been any for ages.
