Damages estimated at $2.5 billion

Nate landed a second time as a Category 1 hurricane near Biloxi, Mississippi but top winds fell to 45 mph from 70 mph in just three hours.

Most of the damage is likely from the storm surge and heavy rains that came with the storm.

The left side of the storm collapsed as it made landfall and that spared New Orleans of the worst of the rain.

As the storm neared, much of US Gulf oil and gas production was taken offline.

Expect a rainy day Monday in New York as the storm travels north.
